The second-generation of Acura’s Canadianbuilt
SUV goes after the likes of the BMW X5
and Porsche Cayenne, sporting an emphasis on
performance and athletic handling. The 3.7-litre
V6 produces an emphatic 300 hp, while the fivespeed
automatic gearbox has a Formula 1-style
sequential paddle-shifting mode. In addition to
the Active Damper suspension, MDX also adopts
the ingenious SH-AWD system from the RL sedan,
resulting in neutral handling like that of a rear-drive
sport sedan. The MDX is a seven-seater, though
most comfortable for four. MDX comes in three trip
levels: Base, Tech and Elite, each adding various
levels of gadgets and toys. Other amenities include
Tri-Zone automatic climate control and a 253-
watt, eight-speaker audio system. Pricing starts at
$52,500, with a loaded Elite rolling out the door
for $62,055.
